Meet Jun: From the Lab to the Lens

Our story kicks off with Jun Fernandez, whose journey in eyewear started in the Philippines, studying Optometry, and took him across the globe — from long days in Ohio labs, to the heat of Riyadh, and eventually to the hustle of New York City. Back then, he was grinding 12-hour shifts as a lab tech and handing out flyers just to make ends meet. Tough start? Definitely. But it lit a fire.

Jun noticed something missing in the market — eyewear that looked great, felt premium, but didn’t come with a designer price tag. So, he decided to build it. After partnering with a trusted team in Canada and visiting the world’s biggest eyewear show in Milan (Mido 2024, to be exact), he found just the right manufacturer to bring his vision to life.

By September 2024, the very first Blakspecs and Cratr frames landed — simple, stylish, and ready for everyday wear.

At Blakspecs, we focus on clean, wearable designs using top-tier materials like acetate N1, titanium, and aluminum for that just-right blend of comfort and cool. CratR, on the other hand, is where we turn it up a notch — crafted with premium MAZZUCCHELLI acetate, the same stuff you’ll find in luxury designer brands.

More than just eyewear, we’re building pieces that help you see clearly and show up fully — wherever life takes you.
